Robert M. Jackson Veterans Center
Providing homeless veterans with the tools for independent living
The Robert Matthew Jackson Veterans Center, Inc. (RMJVC, Inc.) is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 2010 by Mr. Robert M. Jackson to assist homeless veterans and their families in need of services to develop a resilient, self-sufficient lifestyle essential to succeeding in today’s environment. Mr. Jackson has been a vibrant and a highly influential role model in the Greater Harrisburg community for over 38 years and having served in the U.S. Marine Corps, he fought in the trenches during the Vietnam War and led several other Marines on critical missions. Thus his mission is to give honor to those who defended our country but never received the proper recognition that is “owed to them” in addition to improving their quality of life.
Since its inception, the RMJVC, Inc. has been faithful to the mission, vision, and guiding principles of founder, Robert M. Jackson. RMJVC, Inc. offers low-income housing alternatives, counseling, case management, education and job readiness training, personal and financial development, veterans’ benefit resource assistance, clothing and food pantry assistance.
The RMJVC, Inc. also offers trauma-informed care, which is an approach to engaging people with histories of trauma that recognizes the presence of trauma symptoms and acknowledges the role that trauma, has played in their lives in a centered sober environment that uses camaraderie and purpose driven community involvement to support our veterans. This model is unique to the city of Harrisburg because housing is strictly for U.S. military veterans, male and female.
